I belong to the class of people who just cannot start their day without a sip of Coffee and an intake of the latest news, however cliched that may sound. However, in India if your eyes first fall on the newspaper, there’s a great probability that you may be whining for the rest of day. R-Land has robbed me of my coffee and thus the only good thing I do in the morning, I don’t do anymore. (Un)Fortunately it hasn’t robbed me of the newspaper. And believe me, when the first thing you read about is a Bomb Blast or Murder (or both) or a couple of political turnarounds, or kidnapping or rape (let us for the moment forget the fact that our cricket team does also feature on the front cover), the probability of a smile coming on your face is negative (mathematicians are welcome to give their take on this). When Charlize Theron said “A woman in S.A gets raped once every 26 minutes”, it doesn’t really take a celebrity to make us realize that our country’s crime rate isn’t any better either.

At times like this, only Lennon’s Imagine comes to my mind. I’m not a big fan of Beatles nor am I of Lennon’s solos but this particular song without great “music” is one of his few, which have appealed to me. Listen to it when you get the chance to; its a beautiful song.

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

  1. Sitting in a country a few thousand miles away and reading about your country being torn to bits is even worse.

    Take care, Shre.

  2. “Country torn to bits”…Heh. Not yet honey.

India has always been threatened by terrorists but the fact that it took 3 days to take out these scumbags is definitely not very becoming of a nation which is touted as an emerging super power. Quite frustrating to read about “commandos waiting with their rifles…standing guard” etc when ppl were dying in those hotels. Mukesh Ambani hit the nail on the head when he said India doesn’t have an infrastructure to deal with terrorists.

Perhaps I should join the army….

  3. It is being torn to bits, what with the politicians playing passing the blame. Lack of infrastructure seems too true in light of recent events. We need to re-equip people and give them more power. The coast was so unprotected. It took 10 men to instigate terror and pain into the lives of 8 million people in a city that’s perceived to be the nation’s psuedo-financial captital. Not to mention other Indians sitting far away, cancelling plans to come to Mumbai and every other repercussion.

    Army? 🙂

  4. Macha, too much the feel.. But yea, awesome post as usual.. The idea of Sandeep joining the army is hilarious though, he’d scare terrorists with clean insanity… But my heart goes out to all Mumbaikars and in general Indians, for have emotional turbulance we have undergone in the last few days. This is why India rocks, it comes together as a country, when it most importantly should!

  5. maybe you should try the sports page or the supplements..i rarely read the front page these days..our media’s attention seems to be more on the people running the govt than the actual issues that face the nation.and the media coverage of the mumbai tragedy was awful, atleast most of them. the people who create public opinion should have done a better job than just causing more fear and panic among the seemed more like they were covering some entertainment program with all their fake emotions and choked speech(burka dutt is a serious contender for the national awards this season).. the commandos could have done a better job killing a couple of politicians and media persons .and i am amazed how mukesh ambani finds time between counting his did more harm to the nation(corrupting the politicians) than the terrorists..

  7. @Shru: Torn to bits?? We are back up!!

@Sand: NOOOOO… Please don’t man. Don’t you want our country to prosper. 😦

    @Varun: Sports page. LOL! 😀

  8. Sand .. army ? =D . What next I wonder ? Babysitting ? No no … CAR DRIVING !!! There … that suits you so much better . You’ll probably bring the idea behind the midtown madness game to life .

  9. Har har. I CAN actually drive a CAR NOW! 😀 Believe it or not I drove the car all the way from MY house to the airport. I currently reside in Mandaveli. Some 10+ kms from the airport. So just shut. 😀

As for the army dig. You all are unpatriotic selfish mother fathers. How dare you discourage the fiery will of a boy in his early adulthood from defending his motherland. Hmph.

On a more serious note, let this me-joining-army thing rest. Some hyper sensitive being devoid of humour might venture into this blog and rant his head off seeing such comments during “these turbulent times”.

  10. I see that my second comment has conveniently been omitted.

But wait. Sandman is driving a CAR?!

  11. Nice reaction. Usually people die inside the car when I’m driving. But YOU passed away by being in another continent itself. Far reaching consequences? Heh. We now know how to combat those aliens…
